Your new role

As a Regulatory Services Officer within the Selective Licensing Team, you will act as a source of advice and guidance in relation to licensing and regulation of the private sector housing stock in the selective licensing area.   You will attend formal hearings of the Council as well as prosecution and appeal hearings before the Courts or Tribunal as required. You will lead on specific functions and operations related to Housing enforcement; however, you may also be asked to assist across the full range of Regulatory Services and related matters. The role will also require you to operate and record work carried out on departmental systems, contribute to developing and maintaining effective relationships with partners and other external bodies and support the development of a policy framework and enforcement protocols for activities within Regulatory Services.

As a Regulatory Services Officer you will lead on complex housing disrepair issues and complex cases as well as visiting premises within the city as required.  This will involve a range of complex inspection and enforcement activities, which may require working evenings and weekends when necessary. As well as managing your own caseload, you will also be responsible for supervising the work of other staff members where necessary.

What you'll need to succeed

You will have a relevant qualification and experience of working in private sector housing.  You should be able to demonstrate skills in a regulated environment such as compliance with statutory conditions, gathering of evidence, formal interviewing and attendance at court. including experience of preparing cases for Tribunal or Magistrates Court. Experience of selective and additional licensing would be an advantage.
