Southend City Council are looking to appoint a full-time, permanent Project Manager (Capital Projects Regeneration).
This is an exciting opportunity within the council’s Property and Estate Management group for an architect or part-qualified architect to work on a wide range of projects for a number of client departments. Current projects include residential developments, special educational needs buildings, an inclusive playground, listed buildings and art galleries. The successful candidate will be expected to lead on some projects that often have external consultants as design team members.
The team are committed to designing carbon-neutral and energy-efficient buildings and are working to passive house standards in their residential design. The new project manager will be able to explain designs to lay person(s) and produce both technical and presentation drawings, as well as be expected to write specifications using NBS chorus.
To be shortlisted for this position, it is essential as a minimum that you hold an architecture degree that gives exemption to RIBA part one or passed RIBA part one.
You will be an all-round architect, equally at home undertaking feasibility studies, or detailing a building and coordinating the design with other building disciplines.
Having a commitment to energy-efficient carbon-neutral buildings is needed and a knowledge of passive house standards and design would be an advantage.
The team fully detail buildings before tendering, so you must be comfortable with your detailing skills, and you need the ability to research materials and details.
You should be able to show the team a varied portfolio of work that includes residential work that is not necessarily large scale but includes social housing.
You will have administered building contracts and feel confident to challenge contractors when standards are not being met and dig into construction programmes.
When joining the council, you can enjoy a range of benefits including: 25 days annual leave, flexible working and excellent training and development opportunities. They are committed to ensuring that you are supported in this varied and challenging role with the appropriate level of training.
