Your new role

Southend City Council are looking to appoint 3 permanent, full-time Trusted Installers to work as part of a team in selecting, delivering and installing specialist disability equipment, telecare and minor adaptations to the residents of Southend.

The installers will be skilled practitioners, empowered to assess home environments and install low-level adaptations (e.g. grab rails, stair rails, minor adjustments) independently, without requiring assessment or sign-off from a qualified Occupational Therapist.

The newly appointed installers will respond to requests from assessors for installation of items, to support safety and independence within the home.

Key responsibilities of the role include

  • Consider and advise on safety issues concerning the environment, practicality and specific use when installing items.
  • Instruct & demonstrate product features to users, their carers and/or family.
  • To pick, load, deliver, assemble, fit, adjust, remove and/or collect items of equipment for users in their own homes.
  • Comply with administrative & legislative policies, procedures and systems of the service.
  • Accurately comply with administrative recordings, e.g. delivery notes, vehicle logs, timesheets and other forms as required, identifying products using stock codes.

 

 

What you'll need to succeed

To be shortlisted for this position, it is essential that you hold a full driving licence and be able to drive a delivery van.

Hold GSCE passes in English and Maths or equivalent or other evidence of educational attainment appropriate to the grading of the post and City & Guilds or NVQ Qualification in a relevant building trade.

You must have proven working experience with people with disabilities and have an understanding of safety issues relating to disability equipment and the role of risk assessment.

Have previous experience of accurately completing installations to specification, tidily & efficiently in peoples own homes. Knowledge and experience of safely using power and hand tools (drills, electric chop saws, compound mitre saws, hydraulic pipe benders, demolition hammers (Kango’s), Disc cutters, cement mixers etc.
 Due to the nature of the positions, you will require physical strength to be able to operate machinery and tools and carry and fit items of equipment.
