About Music on Sea

Southend Music Service ‘Music on Sea’ is committed to supporting the delivery of and providing high musical opportunities to children and young people across Southend City Council. We believe that all children and young people should have the opportunity to learn to sing, play an instrument and create music together, as well as have the opportunity to progress their musical interests and talent, including through professional pathways.

Music on Sea aims to support schools and other education settings to deliver high quality music education. We strive to support young people to further develop their musical interest and talent, including into employment. This includes support and opportunities for all children and young people to engage with a range of musical opportunities, both in and outside of school. We do this through communication, participation, opportunity, excellence, accessibility, collaboration and enjoyment. We are funded by the Department of Education; our grant is administered by Arts Council England (ACE) to create more opportunities for children and young people to get involved in music. Music Hubs are already working with 80% of schools in England, meaning that around one million children and young people are learning a musical instrument.
