Working for Southend on Sea City Council offers a challenging and rewarding career in local government within a collaborative and innovate environment, with the benefit of flexible working practices to support a positive work life balance. As a Unitary Authority we are responsible for all local government functions ranging from social services, transport, public health and parks through to planning, trading standards, community safety and education, so we offer a wide range of career opportunities. The diversity of our economy and communities and investment in a number of exciting regeneration projects makes our Council a great place to work, learn and make a difference.

Your new role

Are you an experienced logistics professional looking for an opportunity to lead a dedicated team and make a real difference to people's lives?

Southend-on-Sea City Council is seeking a proactive and motivated Logistics Lead to join our Equipment Service on a full-time, permanent basis. This is a unique opportunity to play a pivotal role in a service that supports some of the city's most vulnerable residents by ensuring the timely delivery, collection, maintenance and exchange of essential community equipment.

As Logistics Lead, you will be at the heart of a fast-paced and rewarding operation, leading a skilled team of drivers, technicians and support staff to deliver an efficient, responsive and customer-focused service. Every day brings new challenges, from coordinating urgent equipment deliveries that enable residents to remain independent in their own homes, to identifying improvements that enhance the effectiveness of the service.

Working closely with the Equipment Service Team Manager and other service leads, you will take ownership of the day-to-day logistics operation, ensuring resources are used effectively, performance targets are achieved, and residents receive a high-quality service. You will lead route planning, manage workloads and respond to operational challenges, while fostering a positive and supportive team culture.

This is a hands-on leadership role where you will supervise and support both the Logistics and Administration Teams, providing day-to-day guidance, conducting regular one-to-one meetings, managing staffing arrangements and helping colleagues develop their skills and confidence. You will also promote a strong health and safety culture and ensure compliance with all relevant regulations and procedures.

We are looking for someone who enjoys finding solutions, improving processes and leading people. You will use performance data and operational insight to identify trends, drive efficiencies and deliver meaningful service improvements. You will also take the lead on resolving operational issues and complaints, ensuring a positive outcome for residents wherever possible.

In return, you will join a supportive and collaborative management team that is committed to innovation, continuous improvement and delivering excellent outcomes for residents. This is an opportunity to shape and influence a vital front-line service, contribute to its future development and see the direct impact of your work on the local community.

NB: This role is office-based.
