Southend Museums are looking to appoint a full-time, permanent Collections and Exhibitions Assistant. The service comprises four sites; Beecroft Art Gallery, incorporating the city’s new Collections Centre, Grade II listed Central Museum and our two stunning Grade I listed properties Prittlewell Priory, a former Cluniac monastery and Southchurch Hall, a timber-framed medieval manor house. This is an exciting time to join the museums team as we advance the development of our new Collections Centre and provision of a vibrant exhibitions and events programme across our sites, alongside the continuing care of our heritage buildings. The Collections and Exhibitions Assistant is an essential role within Southend Museums, assisting in the care and promotion of our collections and sites.
The role comprises assisting the collections team and Collections and Conservation Manager with all aspects of collections management, care, and conservation tasks, working with diverse and significant collections ranging from fine art to archaeology and within listed historic buildings. The Collections and Exhibitions Assistant also plays a vital role in the installation and deinstallation of our exhibitions and displays and to collaborate with the collections and learning and engagement teams on their social media output, and visitor outreach activities, including conducting public tours of our Collections Centre and similar engagement with our visitors.
We are seeking a dynamic and driven individual with excellent organisational and technical skills, an eye for detail with the ability to work flexibly across our museum sites. To succeed in this role, you will have experience in, and up to date knowledge of, standards of collections care, conservation processes, and collections management practices, alongside being a confident communicator, and proficient in written work and data recording.
