Are you an experienced Chartered Building Surveyor looking for a unique opportunity to make a lasting impact on one of the UK's most iconic landmarks? Southend-on-Sea City Council is seeking a motivated and technically skilled Pier Surveyor to lead the delivery of capital projects, planned maintenance programmes and specialist surveying services for the world-famous Southend Pier.
This is a unique opportunity to play a key role in preserving and enhancing a nationally recognised structure while managing a diverse portfolio of projects that contribute to the city's future. You will manage projects from design through to completion, preparing specifications, tender documentation and contract information, while overseeing contractors and consultants to ensure works are delivered safely, efficiently and to the highest standards. You'll also undertake condition surveys, inspections and risk assessments, providing expert advice to support the long-term management and preservation of Southend Pier. Working closely with the Pier Team, contractors, consultants, tenants and stakeholders, you will oversee the successful delivery of the Pier Capital Programme and planned maintenance works.
The role will involve undertaking detailed condition surveys, risk assessments and inspections, producing comprehensive reports and maintenance recommendations, and supporting the Council's long-term asset management strategy. You will also prepare and progress applications for Marine Licences and other statutory consents where required.
To be successful in this role, you must have a solid understanding of Building Regulations, CDM Regulations, Health & Safety legislation and construction best practice. Experience preparing specifications, managing tender processes, undertaking condition surveys and delivering projects from inception to completion is essential.
It is crucial that you have strong communication, stakeholder management and organisational skills, along with the ability to manage multiple priorities and work collaboratively with colleagues, consultants and contractors. Experience with AutoCAD and proficiency in Microsoft Office applications would be advantageous.

Chartered Building Surveyor (MRICS) or an equivalent professional qualification would be highly desirable
